MUMBAI: The Maharashtra home department has decided that the three initiatives — Grievance Redressal Day, senior citizen campaign and the complaint box system — introduced by the Mumbai Police on a pilot basis must be made permanent to increase the accountability and strengthen the police-public relationship. Also, as the campaign for senior citizens has been successful in Mumbai, it will be undertaken soon by the police in other big cities of Maharashtra.
Home Minister R.R. Patil on Thursday announced at a function that there would be complaint boxes all over the city. The function was attended by Mumbai police commissioner, Satyapal Singh and joint commissioner, law and order, Sadanand Date. As a part of this system, at least 1000 complaint boxes will be put across public places in Mumbai and the citizens can drop their complaints in this box. “A FIR will be registered if the offence is cognisable,” said Patil.
