Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has once again flown to Delhi, sparking speculation and political chatter just days after his last unannounced visit during the state legislature’s monsoon session. Even Shiv Sena ministers were reportedly unaware of his travel plans, raising further intrigue.
What’s Behind the Sudden Visit?
While no official reason has been provided, early reports suggest Shinde will meet with MPs from his faction of the Shiv Sena to discuss strategies for the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament. However, given the timing and recent controversies, observers believe there may be more to this visit than a routine party meeting.
Backdrop of Political Turmoil
Shinde’s sudden trip comes as the Mahayuti government grapples with multiple controversies. A Shiv Sena MLA, Sanjay Gaikwad, is under fire for allegedly assaulting a legislature canteen employee, while videos and photos of Ministers Sanjay Shirsat (with a bag full of money) and Bharat Gogawale (accused of witchcraft) have gone viral, damaging the alliance’s image.

Growing Discontent Within the Alliance
There’s also internal friction brewing. Some BJP MLAs have reportedly complained to Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis about Shinde’s Urban Development Department favouring Shiv Sena constituencies for fund allocation. Following this, Fadnavis directed that all such proposals be routed through him for final approval.
Shinde’s Popular Image vs Governance Challenges
Despite these setbacks, Eknath Shinde continues to maintain strong grassroots support, known for his accessibility and populist image. However, several government decisions made under his leadership have drawn corruption allegations, prompting whispers of behind-the-scenes checks and internal reviews.
