A sudden power outage hit parts of South Mumbai on Wednesday evening due to a technical fault in a transformer. The disruption, which began at 4:08 PM, lasted for 21 minutes before being restored by around 4:29 PM, minimizing inconvenience to residents and businesses in the area.

"There was a power outage near Sahkar Bhavan, Nariman Point area. The outage occurred due to a feeder tripping at our Nariman Point Receiving Substation. However, the supply was restored quickly within 21 minutes by using alternate cables" said an official.

While the disruption was brief, it once again raised concerns about the reliability of Mumbai’s power infrastructure, particularly in critical business hubs like Nariman Point. Home to major corporate offices, banks, law firms, and residential buildings, Nariman Point plays a crucial role in the city’s economic landscape.

Padmakar Nandekar, secretary of Jal Kiran Housing Society in Cuffe Parade, said, "There have been multiple power cuts this week and these are mostly due to the road digging work happening in the locality. A few days back, the power was disconnected at 3.30 in the morning. A senior citizen lady in our building was on oxygen pump and I had to call up BEST to restore the electricity. Although the power was restored immediately, it was again disconnected at 4.30pm."

Rohit Bansal, an individual working at a private bank located at Nariman Point, said, "The power outage disrupted the work flow during the closing time. Luckily the electricity was cut off after the banking operations were closed for public but the admin work suffered due to the outage, causing employees to stay till late to complete it."
