Thane Tragedy: 12-Year-Old Drowns In Ram Mandir Lake

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the boy’s friends informed bystanders that he was struggling in the water. Locals immediately alerted the police and the RDMC.

A 12-year-old boy drowned while swimming in a lake in Thane on Monday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Piyush Sonawane, a resident of Waghbil in Thane, who lived with his parents.

The incident occurred around 12:30 p.m. at Ram Mandir Lake in Kasarvadavali village, located on Ghodbunder Road. Piyush had reportedly gone swimming with two friends when he drowned.

Friends Raised Alarm After Seeing Him Struggle

According to the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation, the boy’s friends informed bystanders that he was struggling in the water. Locals immediately alerted the police and the RDMC.

Upon receiving the alert, the RDMC dispatched one fire tender, a pickup vehicle, a rescue van, and an ambulance to the spot. Despite the rescue effort, Piyush was pulled out of the water nearly 30 minutes later. He was rushed to Thane Civil Hospital, where doctors declared him dead before arrival.

Boy Declared Dead Before Arrival at Civil Hospital

Yasin Tadvi, Chief of the RDMC, said, “Our team rushed to the spot. With the help of the Thane Disaster Management Cell, the boy was retrieved and sent to the civil hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.”

Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar of Kasarvadavali Police Station said, “The boy, along with two friends, went to the lake for swimming. Sonawane misjudged the depth of the water and drowned. His friends immediately informed locals, who then alerted us.”

Accidental Death Report Registered

An Accidental Death Report (ADR) has been registered, and further investigation is underway.
