Thane Municipal Corporation has launched a recovery campaign for water arrears across the city, successfully collecting ₹59.43 crore in outstanding water bills. During the campaign, approximately 1,780 tap connections were disconnected, 152 motor pumps were seized, and 50 pump rooms were sealed.

Civic officials stated that notices were issued to 3,354 tap holders who had failed to pay their arrears for an extended period. As of now, ₹59.43 crore has been recovered. The total water bill amounts to ₹224 crore, with ₹76 crore in arrears, and the current year's water bill stands at ₹148 crore.

The action was taken under the instructions of Municipal Commissioner Saurabh Rao of TMC. The disconnection of taps and the recovery campaign has been actively targeting citizens who have not paid their dues. Those who remain unpaid are facing the disconnection of their taps, meaning they will be deprived of water.

Additional Commissioner Sandeep Malvi of the Thane Municipal Corporation has set a target for weekly bill recoveries and has continued the water bill recovery campaign.

Public Relations Officer Ravindra Manjrekar from Thane Municipal Corporation stated, "Those found to have illegally reconnected their water connections will face legal action."

The water department of Thane Municipal Corporation officials explained that the water bill recovery campaign is being carried out under the leadership of engineers from the water supply department in the ward committee. Civic officials have urged Thane residents to pay their water bill arrears on time to avoid disconnection.
