The Mumbra Police have booked a 28-year-old woman for allegedly brutally assaulting her four-year-old daughter with a steel spoon. The incident took place on July 6 in Sabe Gaon, Diva, Thane district. The accused has been identified as Yashoda Gudimetala.

A disturbing video of the assault, recorded by another child present at the scene, has gone viral on social media. In the video, Yashoda can allegedly be seen beating her daughter with a steel spoon, dragging her, and forcefully pressing her leg against the child’s chest. Three other children are seen trying to intervene but were unable to stop her. The video was reportedly recorded by a 17-year-old girl present at the scene.

The complaint was filed by Jaya Gudimetala (52), a resident of Wadala, Mumbai. In her FIR, she stated that her son, Bramhaya Gudimetala, married Yashoda on April 21, 2019, and they have a four-year-old daughter from the marriage. Jaya alleged that Yashoda had eloped with another man, leaving the daughter behind. A missing person complaint was filed at the Wadala Police Station, and Yashoda was later traced. A few months later, she took custody of her daughter from Jaya's residence.

Jaya further stated that she later learned Yashoda was living with another man and his four children in Diva. A woman known to Yashoda's current partner allegedly shared the assault video with Jaya, prompting her to alert the local police. The injured child was then taken to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Hospital in Kalwa, where she was treated for injuries to her hand and leg.

According to police, local beat marshals rushed to the scene on Sunday after receiving information about the assault. They confirmed that the four-year-old had sustained injuries and was taken to the hospital.

An FIR has been registered against Yashoda under Sections 115(2) and 118(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), along with Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act.

Anil Shinde, Senior Police Inspector at Mumbra Police Station, said, “Preliminary investigation suggests that the minor girl was using a mobile phone, which angered the accused and led to the assault. The video was recorded by a witness and saved to a pen drive in the presence of two panch witnesses.
