Thane: In Thane city in the last 24 hours around 19 trees fell down and 6 branches were uprooted due to heavy rains on Monday which continued on Wednesday, July 6. The regional disaster management cell (RDMC) also received complaints of 5 trees being in dangerous condition. This has once again raised the question of dangerous trees in the city.
As per the information from RDMC, although no one was injured in the incidents, vehicles were damaged.
Earlier too in Thane city, trees have fallen during the rainy season and people have lost their lives. This year in order to prevent such incidents, the civic body inspected the trees in the city ahead of the monsoon and declared 106 trees dangerous. All these trees were removed by the civic body. Even after that, during the torrential rains, the trees and branches are falling in the city.
RDMC chief of Thane Avinash Sawant said, "In the last 24 hours, 19 trees fell and 6 branches were uprooted. The highest incidences are of roadside tree uprooting or falling branches. The road is crowded with citizens and vehicles and the reason it is feared that such incidents will affect the lives of the citizens."
Sawant further added, "For the third day in a row, heavy rains continued in Thane on Wednesday. We also received complaints about building in dangerous condition and water logging at three spots in the city. "
