The Thane police began to swoop down on the Bangladeshi nationals in Dombivli, Kalyan, and Bhiwandi, arresting a total of six who had allegedly been residing in these respective areas without valid visas and documentation for many years.
The Manpada police said that they received information that four Bangladeshi nationals were residing in the Gandhi Nagar area in Kalyan East and arrested them. Similarly, the Mahatma Phule Police raided the railway premises of Kalyan West and apprehended one Bangladeshi national. Moreover, the Kongaon police raided Kongaon village in Bhiwandi and arrested one Bangladeshi national. Following their arrests, they were presented in court.
The police reported receiving information about Bangladeshi men who were residing illegally in Bhiwandi, Manpada and Kalyan. A team was formed, and a raid was conducted in the area. During the preliminary inquiry, it was discovered that a man had entered India illegally from Bangladesh.
"Investigations revealed that they had fled Bangladesh due to poverty and unemployment in their home country", said an officials.
The police also confirmed that they did not possess valid documents or permission to work and live here. In recent years, Thane has witnessed a notable increase in illegal Bangladeshi migrants.
In response, the police have launched a special campaign to identify and apprehend such individuals.FIR has been registered against the them under the provisions of the Foreign Nationals Act and the Indian Passport Act, the police confirmed.
