In a shocking incident that occurred on Sunday morning near Shahad railway station, a passenger was attacked by a member of a fatka gang. During the incident, Nikam lost his balance and fell from the train. His left leg went directly under the wheels, causing serious injuries. Without stopping, the assailant kicked and beat the injured Nikam, snatched his mobile phone and fled the scene.
The 26-year-old injured victim
"According to reports, 26-year-old Gaurav Ramdas Nikam, a resident of Nashik, was traveling to his hometown on the Tapovan Express. He had boarded the train at Thane. A few minutes after the train departed from Kalyan, an accused associated with the "Fataka gang" — a minor boy standing near the railway tracks — attempted to snatch Nikam's mobile phone, valued at Rs 20,000.
The Robbery Attempt
"The accused struck Nikam on the arm during the robbery attempt, causing him to lose his balance and fall off the moving train near Shahad stations. Tragically, Nikam’s left leg went under the train’s wheels, resulting in a severe injury" said an official.
Despite his critical condition, the accused continued to beat Nikam with sticks, snatched his mobile phone, and fled the scene without offering any help. The incident occurred around 7 am.
Kalyan Railway Police Registers Case
The Kalyan Railway Government Police have registered a case against relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Further investigation is currently underway.
"This incident raises serious concerns about passenger safety and the growing menace of mobile snatching on public transport" said a passenger activist adding that in Mumbai Suburban area phone theft is quite common and on average over 20 cases of Mobile phone theft are being reported daily.
