Thane: The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a homeopathy doctor from Badlapur city in Maharashtra’s Thane district on suspicion of his alleged involvement in a terror-related act of preaching, said local police sources.
Surveillance Was On for Months, Say Police Sources
The local police sources said the doctor, identified as Osama Shaikh, was reportedly practicing at a local hospital. Police sources said the ATS had been monitoring his activities for the past few months and suspected possible links to an alleged terror-related act of preaching.
Transit Remand Granted, Shifted to Uttar Pradesh
According to police sources, acting on the information, the ATS, with assistance from Badlapur East Police, detained Shaikh on Monday afternoon. He was produced before a court in Ulhasnagar for a transit remand, which was granted. He has since been taken to Uttar Pradesh for further investigation.
No Official Statement Yet from ATS on Terror Charges
While local police stated, suspect his involvement in terror related act of preaching -the ATS has not yet issued an official statement confirming the nature of his alleged links.
