A 21-year-old woman died after her two-wheeler was hit by a speeding truck on Thane-Ghodbunder Road near the Nagla Bunder area late Saturday night. The truck driver fled the scene but later rammed into a TMT bus while attempting to escape. He has been identified as Ranjit Singh Chandrapal Patel (30), a native of Madhya Pradesh.
The deceased, Gajhal Tuteja (21), lived with her parents in Bhayandar Pada on Ghodbunder Road.
According to the police, the incident occurred around 10 PM, when Tuteja was riding home on her motorcycle. The truck driver, allegedly driving recklessly, rammed into her vehicle, throwing her onto the road. Passersby found her lying in a pool of blood and immediately alerted the traffic and local police. She was rushed to Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
The Kasarvadavli police informed her family and have launched an investigation. Senior Police Inspector Nivrutti Kolhatkar of Kasarvadavli Police Station said, “We are reviewing CCTV footage from the area to establish the sequence of events and identify the accused. Though initially unidentified, we later traced the driver and have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Motor Vehicles Act. Further investigation is underway.”

Notably, this is the second fatal road accident reported on Saturday. Earlier that morning, a police constable, Suresh Bhalerao, posted at the Thane Police Headquarters, died after being hit by a speeding dumper at Cadbury Junction in Thane. Bhalerao, who joined the Maharashtra Police in 2007, lived with his family in Shivaji Nagar.
According to officials, Bhalerao was riding his motorcycle towards the police headquarters when a recklessly driven dumper struck him from behind, causing him to collapse on the road.
