Thane: Kendriya Vidyalaya in Kolshet region in Thane will now provide Marathi language classes after receiving continuous advocacy by the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS). Historically, the school offered instruction only in Hindi and English, ignoring Marathi for many years.

The MNS General Secretary Sandeep Pachange notified education officials regarding this matter, pushing for the incorporation of Marathi. On June 26, the principal communicated this update in a letter to the education authorities, referring to a new educational policy requiring the instruction of local languages. With 1,400 students now registered at Kolshet, the choice is anticipated to improve cultural understanding and language conservation.

Across Maharashtra, 85,497 students in 69 Kendriya Vidyalayas experience comparable disregard for Marathi language teaching. There have been requests to apply the Thane model in these schools to guarantee that every student has access to Marathi education.

Although Marathi is recognized as a state language, its instruction has been neglected in numerous institutions. The state government, amid continuing debates about Hindi's position, has announced that Hindi is not mandatory in all schools, but Marathi must be emphasized.

The MNS’s involvement highlights the necessity for transformation, as parents voiced worries regarding the language's absence from the curriculum. After their grievance to the principal and education officials, Marathi will be introduced starting in the first grade. The drive for greater inclusion signifies an important advancement in appreciating local language education and guaranteeing fair opportunities for every student throughout the state.
