Thane: The Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) has launched a major crackdown on illegal encroachments, demolishing a total of 85 unauthorized sheds and huts built along the footpath in Titwala.
According to civic officials, the action was taken following several complaints from residents about encroachments obstructing pedestrian movement. The operation was jointly carried out by the ward officer and the assistant municipal commissioner, starting from the Mata Mandir area in Titwala East and continuing up to the Titwala Mandir. Following the demolition, the entire stretch of the footpath has been cleared and is now accessible to the public.
Officials from KDMC’s Encroachment Department, with the support of local police, conducted the drive. A JCB machine was used to remove the illegal structures.
Pedestrians and local residents welcomed the move, stating that the removal of these encroachments has eased their daily commute. “The illegal huts and shops were a major obstruction. We are relieved that the footpath is finally clear,” said a local resident.
However, several people also expressed concerns that the encroachers often return and reestablish their structures. They urged KDMC to monitor the area regularly to prevent recurrence
