Thane: Heavy rainfall on Monday night led to severe waterlogging in several low-lying areas of Bhiwandi, submerging houses and shops.
The water level of the Kamvari River rose significantly due to the downpour, resulting in flooding across some neighborhoods. Some residents witnessed their homes and businesses inundated by the rising waters.
Teen Batti Market Among Worst Affected by Floodwaters
Teen Batti vegetable market, one of the oldest markets in the city, was among the worst affected. As floodwater entered the shops, shopkeepers rushed in to save their belongings and protect their goods from damage.
Low-Lying Areas Like Khadipar and Tandel Mohhalla Hard Hit
By Tuesday morning, the water level had receded, and shopkeepers began preparing to resume their daily activities. Two key areas reported significant water intrusion—Khadipar, Tandel Mohhalla and Teen Batti—trio of which are situated at low elevations and are especially vulnerable during the monsoon season.
Residents Slam Civic Body Over Poor Drainage Infrastructure
Local residents expressed frustration over the recurring issue of flooding, citing the absence of a long-term drainage or sewage solution from the civic authorities.
“We have been living here for many years, but there is still no proper sewage or flood management plan in place,” one resident complained. Officials confirmed that water entered the shops and houses due to incessant rain.
