Two separate incidents involving partial collapses of a room and a building were reported in Thane on Tuesday, leaving one elderly woman injured.

In the first incident, a 70-year-old woman sustained injuries after the ceiling plaster of a first-floor room in a ground-plus-four-storied building collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. The injured woman has been identified as Shamim Bano, a resident of the Rose Garden Building located in Kausa, Mumbra, Thane.

The incident occurred in A Wing of the 25-year-old Rose Garden Building at 12:03 PM, when a section of the concrete ceiling plaster collapsed while the woman was inside the room.

Yasin Tadvi, Chief of the Regional Disaster Management Cell (RDMC) of the Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC), said, "We received information about the plaster collapse and one injured woman. We dispatched rescue vehicles, a pick-up vehicle, a fire tender, and a jeep to the spot. Additionally, Mumbra police and the TMC's Encroachment Department arrived at the scene."

According to officials, the building has been classified under the C2B category, which means it requires repairs without the need to evacuate residents. TMC officials have started removing the remaining dangerous structures from the premises.

In the second incident, a portion of the ceiling and staircases in a gallery reportedly collapsed at 2:30 AM on Tuesday in Padwal Nagar, Kisan Nagar, Thane. The affected structure, known as Nanddeep Building, is a ground-plus-three-storied building that is approximately 50 years old.

Following the collapse, RDMC officials rushed to the site with rescue vehicles, the fire brigade, and fire engines. Authorities stated that a total of 17 families were evacuated and shifted to Hajuri Rental — a temporary shelter.

Additionally, TMC has advised residents of two buildings adjacent to Nanddeep to vacate and stay with relatives or move to alternate shelters for their safety.
