Angry mob from Diva badly thrashed a 30-year-old local hotel staff in Diva on the suspicion of being a child-lifter. The incident took place on Thursday, September 29 in afternoon at Diva in Thane district informed a police officer from Mumbra police station on Friday.

Victim Pintu Nissar (30) who works in a local hotel was standing by the roadside in Diva when a speeding truck went past him. When the speeding truck passed he stepped back a bit and a girl standing behind him got pushed back and fell down. Soon after the girl fell Pintu Nissar tried to lift her up and the girl mother after seeing it raised an alarm suspecting him to be a child-lifter said an officer from Mumbra police station.

Ashok Kadlag, senior police inspector, Mumbra police station said, " When the mother of a girl raised an alarm the people gather around Pintu Nissar and started beating him with whatever they could lay their hands on including iron rod and wooden items. The victim pleaded everyone that he is not a child-lifter as people suspected him but no one believed him and continued attacking him. We were informed by some locals and soon we reached the spot and rescued Nissar from the clutches of the mob. The victim suffered multiple injuries in the attack so we admitted him to a local hospital where he is undergoing treatment."

Kadlag added, " We will be taking strict action against those who were involved in beating the victim. People should not take law into their own hands. As of now no case has been registered against anyone. We have appealed the people not to fall prey to the rumours linked to child-lifting."
