Thane: The state excise department seized a huge cache of liquor that was being illegally brought into Thane district, allegedly for sale. The worth of the seized contraband, ferried under the guise of an RMC (Ready Mix Concrete Truck), is around Rs 66 lakh.
Officials stated that a truck carrying around 595 boxes containing Goa-made foreign liquor intended for sale, along with foreign liquor manufactured in Goa, was intercepted by the flying squad of the Thane excise department on Tuesday in Thane. Officials said they would investigate to track the sender and the local consignee to determine if a racket was operating in the region.
Based on a tip-off, we laid a trap, intercepted the truck, and found that the liquor was kept inside the RMC truck. Further investigation is underway. The officials said that the driver of the truck, identified as Mohan Jishi, has been arrested. The driver was arrested under the relevant sections of the Bombay Prohibition Act.
