Thane: The Kashimira police which booked the driver of a state transport (ST) bus for causing the death of a 37-year-old biker is now investigating if the contractor or engineers were negligent in maintaining the roads which were riddled with potholes.
Amid the heavy downpour, the pothole-ridden road near the bus stop in Kajupada area located on the Thane-Ghodbunder Road in Kashimira, allegedly claimed the life of Mohnish Ahmed Irfan Khan on Tuesday.
Khan apparently lost his balance while negotiating a pothole, fell off his bike and was mowed down by the Mumbai-bound ST bus coming from behind.
“We will question the agency concerned and ascertain if there was any type of negligence in maintaining the roads by the contractor, following which appropriate action will be taken,” said senior police inspector Sanjay Hazare of Kashimira police station.
Meanwhile, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) will soon adopt a quick-fix solution to get rid of the pothole menace by using modern technology in the form of jetpatchers.
“Once the rain subsides, we will soon bring in jetpatchers to fill the potholes. An agency has been shortlisted for the work,” city engineer Deepak Khambit said.
