Kalyan: 27-year-old arrested by railway police for stealing woman's purse

Kalyan: A 27-year-old man was arrested by the Government Railway Police, local crime branch, Kalyan unit for robbing the purse of a woman. The accused, after committing the crime was running away when he was caught by the crime branch sleuths patrolling at the platform, the police said. The police have seized around five mobile phones and gold and silver ornaments and cash worth Rs 43,000.

The police said the accused Imran Siddhique, 27, was roaming around the Kalyan railway station platform. He first got down from an running express train on platform number 4. With no success, he came to platform number 6 to commit a crime, the police officials said.

Meanwhile, the Kalyan GRP crime branch officers who were also patrolling around the platform were alerted. "On June 16, at 10:45 pm Jodhpur-Bengaluru express arrived at platform no. 6 of Kalyan railway station. Our team got alert in public as we were in casual attire. One of us saw accused Siddhique getting down from the express with a bag of the woman. The woman was shouting for help, as the express started, she couldn't get down", said Arshad Shaikh, Assistant police inspector, GRP, Kalyan crime branch. "Our team member alerted everyone and we chased the accused and nabbed him. We recovered the woman’s bag which contained jewellery and cash worth Rs 43,000. She was taking this to her village for a marriage of her relative", he added.

The police said they have seized five mobiles. The three were from the purse, while one belongs to Imran and the one is to be traced. Gajendra Patil, police inspector, GRP, local crime branch said the accused was handed over to Kalyan GRP. "After producing in court, he was remanded to police custody for three days", added Patil.
