Mumbai : The Mobile Learning Centre Project of the NGO Save the Children is helping hundreds of out-of-school street children in Mankhur and Govandi to read and write, eventually assisting them in getting into mainstream school education.
Save the Children is working in pockets of the city’s eastern suburbs, where the dropout rate is the highest in the city.
The ‘blue bus’ of the Mobile Learning Centre Project provides a child-friendly space in often-hazardous localities and also gives children access to educational activities. In spite of the Right to Education Act, a number of students cannot afford to go to school in the suburbs due to financial and domestic reasons.
