The Western Railway (WR) has proposed setting up WiFi inside the trains, adding to which a WR official told the leading daily, “The router and LAN will be installed inside the coaches. There will be a firewall to cover a certain distance beyond which the WiFi will get disabled.”
The railways will have basic rules for using these WiFi systems, for instance, one will have to enter their contact numbers as a password that will be verified and then, the WiFi will connect. The WR will also give the contractor advertisement rights on the coaches of trains. At present, most of Mumbai’s railway stations are WiFi-enabled.
