Mumbai : Forty-eight hours since the CBI registered a case against Indrani Mukerjea, her driver Shyamvar Rai and former husband Sanjeev Khanna in the sensational Sheena Bora murder case, at least four teams of the elite agency under leadership of its Joint Director, Special Task Force (STF), Nina Singh have initiated investigations in four states including Maharashtra.

The agency has 50 days to complete the investigation and file a charge sheet to ensure none of the three main accused gets bail.

“Racing against the clock braving geographical barriers and a complex web of crime, passion, money and lies, CBI has to deliver. The main charge sheet needs to be filed within 90 days since the first arrest. Indrani’s driver was arrested on August 21 and the charge sheet has to be ready before November 20,” said a source close to the agency.

Since Monday, Singh and her team members rushed to various locations in Mumbai and Raigad district to collect fresh evidence in addition to whatsoever has been so far collected by the Khar Police.

“CBI teams have chalked out the plan to travel to various locations in West Bengal, Assam and Delhi. While the case diary submitted by the Khar Police contains solid information about what happened since Sheena’s brutal murder, the motive has not yet been established,” the source said.

“We have registered the offence in Delhi jurisdiction as Delhi has its proven jurisdiction to initiate probe anywhere in the country. It is absolutely untrue that CBI kept its Mumbai men out of the probe as Singh herself holds charge of SCBU, Mumbai, being a Joint Director in Delhi,” a CBI spokesperson from its New Delhi headquarters told FPJ in a telephonic conversation on Thursday.

“We are confident of filing the charge sheet as per legal provisions and deadlines. The probe will be carried out in an impartial manner as CBI does not believe in being partial or biased,” she said.

“In addition to SCBU officers, CBI will also seek help from its Economic Offences cell headed by Amrit Mohan Prasad, also a joint director and based in Mumbai,” said another source.

Meanwhile, Mumbai Police officers are tight-lipped on the case documents handed over to the CBI. “We can’t comment as it is being dealt by CBI. We have done our bit and now they have taken over,” Additional Commissioner of Police (West) Chhering Dorje told FPJ.
