Mumbai : A woman who was held by the Powai Police a week ago for allegedly conning people by working as their maids and then stealing lakhs from their homes faces two more cheating cases in separate police stations. While investigating in the case, Powai police realized that the accused has earlier cheated some woman on pretext of getting them a job and have later fled off with their documents and valuables.
Apart from a case in Powai, two more cases of cheating are been registered against her in Govandi and CBD Belapur Police stations.
“Vaijanti Moreshwar Kamat (21) was working in a Powai based businessman’s house since October 2015 as a maid. Soon she gained trust of the businessman’s family as she worked as a 24X7 domestic help. The victim family was impressed with her of whom she took advantage and looted around 3.5 lakhs jewelry and around 50,000 cash.” said Sambhaji Mohite, Assitant Police Inspector, Powai Police.
It is learnt that the accused Vaijanti was fond of watching the popular tele series Savdhan India and she planned her crime as per the ones shown in the serial very skillfully and almost everywhere she had given fake numbers which were either not working or not valid. According to the police she was very confident of her plan and ensured that she does not leave any proof that may go against her. As per Mohite
“After her arrest it was during the interrogation she revealed that she was a big fan of television crime show ‘Savdhan India’ whom she watched daily and outlined her crime accordingly.”
During the interrogations it was revealed that Vaijanti – a resident of Dharavi, had fooled some women from Govandi and Belapur on pretext of getting them jobs. As per Govandi police, the accused met one Anita Kale – a resident of Ghatla village in Govandi, and became friends with her and assured her that she may soon get her a domestic help job. The accused asked Anita to meet on Govandi Station with her documents and when the victim arrived Vaijanti purposely sent her outside station for some work and fled off with her documents, mobile phone and a 10gms gold chain.
Similar was the case of Belapur’s Varsha Kamble, whose documents and a gold chain were looted by Vaijanti on the pretext of getting her a job.
However, both CBD Belapur and Govandi Police have registered a case against the accused for cheating.
