Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairperson Sachin Ahir has directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) to take immediate steps to resolve basic civic issues faced by residents of Worli, even as several major development projects are underway in the area. Ahir held a review meeting with BMC Commissioner Ashwini Bhide at his chamber to discuss pending issues in Worli. Bhide instructed concerned civic officials to examine the issues and initiate necessary measures at the earliest.
Meeting Covers Healthcare, Parking, Waste Management And Connectivity Issues
The meeting covered healthcare, traffic congestion, solid waste management, parking and connectivity of flyovers and transport infrastructure.
Considering the growing population of Worli, Ahir proposed setting up a free maternity hospital and a specialised children’s hospital on BMC land at Dhobighat. He also called for the Mata Ramai Ambedkar Hindu Crematorium to be made fully operational and for the smoke-exhaust system to be repaired to prevent inconvenience to nearby residents.
Road Obstructions Near Metro Station To Be Removed
He directed officials to remove obstructions on roads near the Acharya Atre Chowk Metro station and ensure that footpaths are made level and pedestrian-friendly.
Ahir also raised concerns over the upkeep of footpaths and gardens along the Coastal Road, where beautification work is being undertaken. He called for proper maintenance and beautification of the area considering heavy pedestrian movement.
He sought removal of construction debris near Nehru Science Centre Metro station and pointed out that the MMRDA had not yet handed over certain spaces to the BMC despite completion of Metro-related works.
Ahir also demanded urgent completion of the link between the Saat Rasta Monorail bridge and the Metro station to reduce the inconvenience caused to commuters. He sought lower parking charges at civic parking lots and discounted monthly passes for local residents.
The meeting also included discussions on a proposed grand memorial for Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj in Mumbai. Ahir said development in Worli should prioritise residents’ interests and ensure that rehabilitation is protected.
