Revamped Ravindra Natya Mandir To Feature Dolby Atmos, Offer 20 Certified Courses For Artists

On Sunday, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the renovated complex of P. L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, under Maharashtra government’s Department of Cultural Affairs.

The newly renovated Ravindra Natya Mandir will feature one of the most expensive audio technologies in the mini theatre at Ravindra Natya Mandir. The academy will also offer 20 new certified courses for artists in collaboration with the state and the central governments.

On Sunday, chief minister Devendra Fadnavis inaugurated the renovated complex of P. L. Deshpande Maharashtra Kala Academy, under Maharashtra government’s Department of Cultural Affairs. On Monday, ‘P.L. Festival’ was organised featuring the Bengali play ‘Amar Dekha Kichu Namuna’ based on Deshpande’s celebrated book ‘Vyakti Ani Valli’. This was the first time that the celebrated Marathi author’s work was showcased in Bengali. Another play by Deshpande ‘Mad Sakharam’ was also performed.

The historic Ravindra Natya Mandir building has been upgraded with modern amenities, including new interior decor and technical advancements. The renovation includes a state-of-the-art auditorium, an open-air theatre, a nano auditorium, an audio-visual studio, and editing suites. Additionally, dedicated rehearsal rooms and creative workspaces for artists have also been established, along with a P. L. Deshpande Memorial Gallery.

Key highlights of the revamped Ravindra Natya Mandir includes a high-quality film screening system and Dolby Atmos audio technology installed in its mini theatre, which is one of the most expensive audio technologies found in the drama theatres of India. The theatre will meet education as it will also provide 20 new certificate courses for artists in collaboration with the state and central government.

Ravindra Natya Mandir will also house an art gallery for artists with modern facilities equivalent to Jehangir Art Gallery. A state-of-the-art auditorium, an amphi-theatre, a mini auditorium, an audio-visual studio, and editing suites have also been newly established. A room for musicians and a brainstorming studio have also been developed in the academy, along with the inauguration of the P. L. Deshpande Memorial.

CM Fadnavis had said at the inauguration, “If P. L. Deshpande were to be defined in one word, he would be Maharashtra’s ‘Happiness Index.’ His literary works bring pure joy to everyone. Marathi theatre lovers have always cherished plays, and the value of culture and civilization is reflected in the literature, traditions, and language nurtured in a society.”

Deputy chief ministers Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, ministers Ashish Shelar, Shivendraraje Bhosale, and Mangal Prabhat Lodha had also joined the inauguration ceremony. Additionally, MLA Kalidas Kolambkar, former MLA Bhai Girkar, Jayant Deshpande, additional chief secretary Vikas Kharge were also present at the event. Renowned actors, painters, literary figures, and enthusiastic audiences from the Marathi film and theatre industry had joined the celebrations.

On Tuesday, a Women’s Arts Festival will be held, showcasing Lavani performances and a classical duet singing program.
