Mumbai : Congress MLA Nitesh Rane has demanded maximum compensation for farmers who lost their rice and mango crops during the unseasonal rains in Konkan. In a unique form of protest, Rane has dispatched some rotten mangoes to ministers through courier alleging that the State Government failed to help the farmers.
Rane alleged that every year farmers who are into mango farming have to face losses due to natural calamity. But the state government never looks into the matter of farmers from Konkan, he alleged. “This year the farmers lost almost 50 percent of the mangoes due to rain and cold. The state government has to compensate them. The collector has not started survey of the losses. Why the state government has not ordered the collector to conduct the survey?” he asked.
