Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut alleged that the Election Commission has favoured BJP. This statement comes after the Election Commission’s move on the rejection of the vote cast by Shiv Sena MLA Suhas Kande and alleged that the EC favoured BJP. “Election Commission made our one vote invalid. We objected to two votes but no action was taken on that. The Election Commission favoured them (BJP),” Raut said.

He admitted that independents in particular, who were with the MVA government, did not vote for Shiv Sena’s second candidate Sanjay Pawar but cast their votes in favour of BJP’s third nominee Dhananjay Mahadik. He accused BJP of horse trading and luring them by promising a moon.

They (BJP) have a habit of committing sins in the morning (referring to early morning swearing-in of Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar). The hearing at the Election Commission was going on till dawn. We wish them all the best in their endeavours. You keep doing the same thing. Make Maharashtra a permanent horse market once and for all,” said Raut.

‘’We have the names of those who cheated us by giving a word. Let us see,’’ said Raut.

"The MLAs elected on our symbol, that is, party MLAs, have not voted for BJP but some independents and legislators from smaller parties cast their votes for the BJP nominee. They were being lured while some were pressurized by the central probe agencies. In the case of a few others, some deals were struck. Well, BJP has won today but we will see tomorrow,’’ said Raut. He noted that the party has a list of independents and legislators from smaller parties who have voted for BJP.

"Of course, BJP did win the seat but I don't think it was a victory. Shiv Sena’s second candidate Sanjay Pawar had polled the highest number of 33 first preference votes against BJP’s third candidate Dhananjay Mahadik who secured 27 first preference votes. It is not a victory for the BJP. However, it is true that we (Shiv Sena’s Sanjay Pawar) did not get the expected votes. All our key leaders worked hard for Sanjay Pawar's victory. We're pretty sure we would win the seat. But if the first preference votes were counted, we would have almost won,” said Raut.
