Pune: The Anti Dacoit Cell of Pune on Tuesday late night busted suspected drugs contraband and arrested three people from a hotel in Pune and seized five kgs of opium from them after receiving a tip-off.

Rajendra Kadam, police inspector, anti dacoit cell, has received a tip off that a few people were carrying opium to sell to unidentified persons.

Police raided Excel Lodge in Rasta Peth near KEM Hospital in Pune where trio had checked-in on Tuesday afternoon. Police found out five kilograms of opium worth Rs 12.5 lakh.

According to police, this was one of the biggest seizures of opium in Pune.

Police arrested Rana Sonaram Patel (23), Ruparam Baheram Patel (25) and Sarvan Kevalram Patel (24).

They are from Rajasthan and have got opium from Rajasthan. They are booked under 8K and 29 sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985 (NDPS act). They were produced before the court and sent to the police custody till March 27.

According to police, three of them came from Jodhpur on Monday and on Tuesday afternoon they checked in the hotel. Sanjay Singh Bisth, assistant police inspector, Samartha police station, said, “arrested youth are illiterate and unemployed and are from villages in Rajasthan. They have been telling us that somebody from Rajasthan has asked them to handover this parcel to a man in Pune .”
