Mumbai : The Oshiwara police have registered an FIR against 45-year-old Smita alias Kavita Desai for duping a Lokhandawala resident of Rs 25 lakh by promising a flat under Chief Minister’s quota. Interestingly, she has been arrested by Mulund police for a similar offence.

The incident came to light when the victim, identified as Shaikh, approached the Oshiwara police. According to cops, Desai used to befriend the victims before duping them. In the Shaikh’s case, Desai started her process of winning his confidence last year.  Shaikh and Desai’s sons studied in the same class and therefore it became easier for Desai to get in touch with Shaikh. She used to frequent his residence in Lokhandwala and used to boast of her contacts.

Desai told Shaikh that she has a flat from CM’s quota and it is very easy to buy it. Shaikh shown interest in the deal and agreed to have a look at the flat. Desai took Shaikh to a private society building in Andheri and shown him the flat. But before going to see the flat, Desai had told Shaikh not to tell anyone that it is a CM quota flat as the society members will object to the deal. Shaikh liked the flat and so he paid Rs 17 lakh through online transfer and rest of the amount in cash to Desai. After receiving the money, Desai started avoiding calls which made Shaikh suspicious.
