Senior police inspector of Panvel was transferred to the police control room; the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) and the Assistant Police Commissioner were sent on long leave as per the order of State Home Minister R R Patil.

Mumbai : After the 90 girls, including 32 minors, were rescued from a famous bar in Panvel by a team of Thane (Rural) police along with an NGO, senior police inspector of Panvel on Saturday was transferred to the police control room. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 2) and the Assistant police commissioner were also sent for a long leave.

The State Home Minister R R Patil took the decision on Saturday in the backdrop of the whole rescue operation.

Ramesh Ghadwale has been transferred to the Navi Mumbai police control room on Saturday, said an official.

After a non-governmental organisation, Indian Rescue Mission, requested the State Director General of Police, an Inspector General of Police (Konkan range) along with Thane Police (Rural) were ordered to conduct a raid in Kapal Bar and Dimple Lodge in Panvel.

The lodge, interconnected with the bar, was known to be carrying out some illegal work. Due to which a team of 19 officials, led by Additional Superintendent of Police Sangramsigh Nishandar, conducted a raid in the bar on Thursday night.

Additional Commissioner of Police, Fateh Singh Patil, says, “Kapal Bar is just three kilometre away from Panvel police station, but no action had been taken by the local police against them even though they were involved in flesh trade. Senior Inspector of PANVEL police station Ramesh Ghadwale has got into a controversy after the raid and we have transferred him to the police control room as a punitive measure.”

The police officials had also sent Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone II) Pramod Shewale on a long leave after the raid. An investigation is being carried out to find out if the officials were aware of the illegal business and whether they had any possible nexus with them. “Departmental action will be taken is if we find them to be hand in glove with the bar owners,” added Patil.

The bar owners had been allegedly running flesh trade in their premises along with their regular business.

The police have arrested a total of 45 people right from the proprietor to waiters after the raid was conducted in the bar. Jewelleries worth Rs 24 lakh and Rs 1.15 crore in cash were also recovered from the bar.
