New Delhi: Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Friday, with the Prime Minister enquiring about the flood situation in Maharashtra and the ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts. The meeting took place in Parliament and marked Shinde's first interaction with the Prime Minister after the recent student protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
The meeting has drawn political attention as it comes ahead of the expected Union Cabinet reshuffle, the likely introduction of the Delimitation Bill during the upcoming Parliament session and while the Supreme Court continues hearing the Shiv Sena name and symbol dispute. Shiv Sena leaders said the meeting was held in Shinde's capacity as the head of the NDA ally, which currently has 13 Lok Sabha MPs.
PM Modi Meets Shiv Sena MPs
Prime Minister Modi also met six Shiv Sena MPs who recently joined the Shinde-led faction from Shiv Sena UBT. During a breakfast interaction, he discussed development issues concerning their respective constituencies. According to a Times of India report quoting Sena leaders, the Prime Minister assured the MPs that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) functions as 'one family' and reiterated his support for all alliance partners.
The MPs present during the interactions included Shrikant Shinde, Naresh Mhaske, Nagesh Patil Ashtikar, Omraje Nimbalkar and Sanjay Dina Patil. The meetings came days after Shinde, accompanied by newly elected Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Sachin Ahir and Sena MPs, met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi.
High-Levels Talks Amid Operation Tiger 3.0 Rumours
The series of high-level meetings has fuelled fresh political speculation, with opposition parties linking them to possible political realignments in Maharashtra. Reports have also suggested discussions around a possible 'Operation Tiger 3.0', aimed at attracting more leaders from the Shiv Sena UBT, although there has been no official confirmation.
