A day after the hike, oil marketing companies (OMC) kept petrol and diesel prices unchanged on Thursday across the four metro cities.

Accordingly, in the national capital, petrol price remains at Rs 95.56 per litre while diesel at Rs 86.47 per litre.

In Mumbai, the price of petrol was held unchanged at an all-time high of Rs 101.76 per litre. Diesel price also continues to be at Rs 93.85 a litre, the highest among metros.

In Chennai, petrol is priced at Rs 96.94 per litre while the price of diesel is Rs 91.15 per litre. The price of petrol in Kolkata is Rs 95.52 per litre while diesel is sold at Rs 89.32 per litre.

Fuel prices differ from state to state depending on the incidence of local taxes such as VAT and freight charges.

Retail prices have risen after an increase in international oil prices on investors' optimism that improving demand and a dwindling supply glut may mean the market can absorb any additional production from OPEC and its allies.

With Wednesday's price hike, fuel prices have now increased on 21 days and remained unchanged on 19 days since May 1. The 21 increases have taken up petrol prices by Rs 5.16 per litre in Delhi. Similarly, diesel price has increased by Rs 5.75 per litre in the national capital.
