Panvel Municipal Corporation Signs MoU With ACTREC Tata Hospital For Cancer Screening, Staff Training & Enhanced Healthcare Services

In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare facilities, Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ACTREC Tata Hospital, Kharghar, to conduct cancer screening and provide specialized training for medical staff.

Panvel: In a significant step towards strengthening healthcare facilities, Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with ACTREC Tata Hospital, Kharghar, to conduct cancer screening and provide specialized training for medical staff.

MoU formalized under PMC leadership

The agreement was formalized at the Adya Krantiveer Vasudev Balwant Phadke Auditorium under the guidance of PMC Commissioner and Administrator Mangesh Chitale. The initiative is aimed at early detection and timely treatment of cancer across the municipal limits.

Screening to be held across 26 UPHCs

As part of the MoU, cancer screening will be carried out in all 26 Urban Primary Health Centers (UPHCs) under PMC. Medical officers and staff will also receive training from Tata Hospital experts to enhance diagnostic capabilities.

Event coincides with organ donation campaign

The event coincided with the conclusion of the ‘Jeevan Sanjivani Organ Donation Abhiyan,’ jointly organized by PMC, Dr. Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Sub-District Hospital, and Dost Mumbai. The programme was part of the Organ Donation Fortnight observed between August 3 and August 15.

Prominent dignitaries attend the programme

Prominent dignitaries present included MLA Prashant Thakur, Deputy Commissioner Prasenjit Karlekar, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Anand Gosavi, Dr. Sharmila Pingale (Head of Preventive Oncology, Tata Hospital Parel), Dr. Rajesh Dixit (Director, ACTREC Tata Hospital Kharghar), Deputy Director Dr. Gauravi Mishra, and Sub-District Hospital Superintendent Dr. Ashok Gite.

MLA Thakur praises initiative

Speaking on the occasion, MLA Prashant Thakur lauded PMC’s initiative, stating, “This project will greatly benefit citizens of Panvel. Early cancer detection will reduce both the incidence and mortality rate of the disease.”

Ambulance Services Strengthened

To further boost emergency healthcare, three state-of-the-art ambulances equipped with life-saving facilities were inaugurated by MLA Thakur. Commissioner Mangesh Chitale said the new additions would ensure timely treatment during emergencies and strengthen health services in the PMC area.

Organ Donation Advocacy

During the programme, MLA Thakur also emphasized the importance of organ donation. Sharing that both he and his wife have pledged their organs, he said, “Even after death, we can give life to others by donating organs such as eyes, liver, and skin.”

Awareness sessions conducted

A detailed presentation on organ donation was given by Dr. Kailash Javade and his team from Dost Foundation, while awareness sessions were conducted by Snehal Hande and Urmila Mahajan.

The MoU was officially signed by Dr. Anand Gosavi, Medical Health Officer of PMC, and Dr. Pankaj Chaturvedi, Director of Tata Hospital, Kharghar.
