Panvel: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) has launched a month-long cleanliness awareness campaign titled “Adopt Cleanliness – Drive Away Diseases” across its jurisdiction from July 1 to July 31.

The initiative, is aimed at raising public awareness about hygiene, preventing the spread of infectious diseases, and strengthening community health infrastructure.

"The campaign, involves extensive coordination between health and sanitation officials across all four municipal wards: Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe, and Panvel. As part of the drive, various awareness and action-based programs will be conducted in residential areas, schools, markets, open grounds, lakes, and drains," said an official.

In schools, children will be educated on proper handwashing practices as part of the Clean Hands initiative. Residential societies will see awareness efforts on garbage segregation and waste disposal under the Clean Homes activity. Meanwhile, major roads, chowks, and civic spaces will undergo focused cleaning as part of the Clean Neighborhoods campaign.

Efforts will also focus on ensuring that public and community toilets are clean and well-equipped with soap and water, aligning with the broader goals of the Swachh Bharat Mission. Additionally, nullahs, closed drains, and lakes will be cleaned with active involvement from sanitation workers, NGOs, and citizen volunteers.

Markets, food streets, and hotspots near nullahs and lakes that are prone to garbage accumulation will be targeted under a special Clean Public Spaces campaign.

"The month-long initiative has been launched in line with guidelines from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, and emphasizes mass participation. Citizens are urged to actively join the campaign and adopt sustainable cleanliness habits to protect themselves and the community from illness," said the official.
