Panvel, April 3: The Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) organised a capacity-building workshop for sanitation workers (Swachhata Doots/Safai Mitras) in Ward ‘D’, with a focus on improving efficiency and ensuring workplace safety.
Workshop held under civic leadership
The workshop, held at the Rohidas Wada community hall, was conducted under the guidance of Municipal Commissioner Mangesh Chitale and as per the directions of Deputy Commissioner Dr Vaibhav Vidhate.
Focus on skill enhancement and safety
Highlighting the importance of such initiatives, an official from PMC said, “Enhancing the skills of sanitation workers and ensuring their safety is crucial for maintaining an efficient and sustainable urban sanitation system.”
Expert training on waste management
The session included expert guidance from Dr Poonam Hudar of Ornate Technology, who trained participants on key aspects of solid waste management. “Proper planning, waste segregation, and adherence to safety protocols can significantly improve both efficiency and working conditions,” she said.
Sanitation workers were trained on safety measures for road cleaning staff, segregation of wet and dry waste, and health and safety practices, particularly for women workers and those in sewerage-related roles.
Participants welcome initiative
Expressing their views, a participating sanitation worker said, “Such workshops help us understand our work better and ensure that we can perform our duties safely and more effectively.”

Officials expect improved services
Officials said the initiative is expected to strengthen sanitation services across the city. The workshop was attended by Chief Health Inspector Arun Kamble, sanitation inspectors, supervisors, and a large number of sanitation workers and citizens.
