In response to the growing water shortage in Kharghar and Taloja areas under the Panvel Municipal Corporation (PMC) , a high-level meeting was held on Tuesday at the PMC headquarters. The meeting was attended by key officials from CIDCO, Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP), Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), and senior municipal officials.
Kharghar and Taloja have traditionally received 76 MLD and 18 MLD (Million Litres per Day) of water respectively. However, with the onset of summer, this supply has decreased to 70 MLD for Kharghar and 15 MLD for Taloja — a shortfall of 6 and 3 MLD. The meeting focused on strategies to restore the original water supply levels and ensure that residents do not face hardships due to the reduced availability.
Commissioner Chitale directed CIDCO to resume supplying the additional 6 MLD to Kharghar, while MIDC was requested to restore the 3 MLD shortfall in Taloja. Both agencies responded positively to the proposal and assured cooperation in addressing the crisis.
The meeting was convened following the directive of local MLA Prashant Thakur, who had urged the municipal corporation to take swift action to resolve the issue. Authorities are hopeful that the coordinated efforts will soon provide relief to affected residents.
