A tense situation was averted in the Panvel Municipal Corporation’s general body meeting after Mayor Nitin Patil intervened when the opposition attempted to create disruption over the water issue.

According to officials, members of the opposition had arranged for citizens to sit in the visitors’ gallery with placards, reportedly even facilitating their transport. Sensing a possible disturbance, the Mayor halted proceedings and warned against protests, sloganeering and display of banners inside the House, stating that such actions were inappropriate . He directed that any citizen grievances be submitted through proper administrative channels and cautioned that strict action would be taken against violations. Following the warning, those present in the gallery gradually left.

Reiterating that water supply remains a priority, Patil announced that a special water council meeting would be held within the next 15 days to focus on both immediate and long-term solutions. He also directed the administration to take stringent steps, including disconnecting water connections of builders until equitable supply is ensured.

A detailed discussion on water supply was held for about 30 minutes, with several corporators highlighting shortages in their respective areas and suggesting remedial measures.
