Palghar, Maharashtra: A tragic accident in Palghar district has claimed the lives of two schoolgirls and serious injuries to one girl after the collapse of an unfinished water tank slab, under the Jal Jeevan Mission. The incident, which occurred in Sukad Amba Shirsun Pada within the Chalni Gram Panchayat of Dahanu taluka, has sparked outrage among local residents who are accusing authorities and contractors of negligence.

This incident occurred on March 17 at around 4:30 pm. In this incident, two seventh-grade girls, Harshla Rashu Bagi and Sanjana Prakash Rao, lost their lives on the spot, while another student who was with them survived narrowly. The girls were playing on the slab of the incomplete tank when a section of the slab suddenly gave way, causing the girls to fall approximately 30 feet. Harshla and Sanjana sustained fatal head injuries, while a third girl narrowly escaped death by becoming trapped within the collapsed structure.

Community Outrage Over Poor Workmanship

Following this incident, the entire village is in mourning, with parents and local residents expressing intense anger and frustration. The construction of the water tank was undertaken by a contractor from Haresh Borwell Company. However, no safety measures were implemented at the site. Locals have accused the contractor of performing substandard work.

Families Demand Culpable Homicide Charges

The grieving families of the deceased girls have demanded that a criminal case of culpable homicide be filed against the contractor. This tragic event has led to widespread anger among the villagers, who are demanding the immediate arrest of the contractor and strict punishment.

Accusations of Government Negligence

Although various government schemes are being implemented in Palghar district, there have been repeated accusations that safety regulations are not followed. If no strict action is taken against the contractor and concerned officials responsible for this incident, the possibility of similar accidents in the future cannot be ruled out.

It will be important to see whether appropriate action is taken against those responsible for this incident. Currently, villagers and social activists are taking the initiative to ensure justice for the families of the deceased girls.
