Palghar, Maharashtra: Residents of Jawhar and surrounding tribal-dominated areas will no longer have to travel long distances to seek justice. A state-of-the-art civil and criminal court complex was inaugurated today in Jawhar, marking what Justice Girish Kulkarni of the Bombay High Court described as “the beginning of a faster era in the judicial process for tribal and remote areas.”
Dignitaries Attend Opening Ceremony
The inauguration ceremony was attended by several dignitaries, including Justice Manjusha Deshpande and Justice Sethna of the Bombay High Court, Thane District and Sessions Judge Shrinivas Agrawal, MLA Harishchandra Bhoye, Palghar Superintendent of Police Yatish Deshmukh, Rajeshri Mahendrasinh Mukne, Jawhar Taluka Bar Association President Prasanna Bhoir, and Civil Judge Maya Mathure, among others. Local representatives, police officials, members of the legal fraternity, social workers, and citizens were also present.
Previously, people from Jawhar and nearby villages had to travel to Talasari, Palghar, or even Nashik for court matters, a process that consumed significant time, money, and effort. The new court will provide legal services locally, making judicial access faster and more convenient for rural and tribal populations. Justice Kulkarni also highlighted plans to introduce e-court services, online case registration, and video conferencing for hearings, enabling citizens to benefit from the digital justice system.
E-Court Services and Digital Access Planned
Justice Deshpande emphasised that the new facility will make judicial processes more accessible and effective in rural and tribal areas. The building features spacious courtrooms, a bar room for lawyers, separate waiting rooms for witnesses, advanced offices for record-keeping, and amenities for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. Built with eco-friendly and energy-saving concepts, the complex aims to enhance comfort while promoting sustainability.
“The new court building will not only expedite pending cases but also make it easier for citizens to approach the judiciary to claim their rights,” Justice Deshpande said. She called for collective efforts to promote transparency, speedy trials, and public trust in the justice system.
Modern, Accessible, and Eco-Friendly Infrastructure
District and Sessions Judge Shrinivas Agrawal underlined that access to justice is a fundamental right for every citizen, and delivering it swiftly and transparently is the judiciary’s duty. “This court will save thousands of people in Jawhar and nearby areas both time and money, while further strengthening their trust in the justice system,” he said.
Strengthening Trust in the Justice System
With this inauguration, the Jawhar region takes a significant step toward a more efficient, people-oriented judiciary, offering much-needed relief to residents of rural and tribal areas.
