Around 30 ashramshalas in Palghar district have installed CCTV cameras to provide better security to the girl students. The CCTVs have been installed at the behest of the project officers (POs) of Dahanu and Jawhar which comes under the integrated tribal development project (ITDP), said an official of the PO, Jawhar.

This is also one of the step to prevent incidents of sexual harassments of girls studying in the schools, said the official.

It is to be noted that on March 23, a man entered the premises of a Pune school and sexually assaulted a Class VI minor near athe lavatory. Around 30 ashramshalas located in Palghar, Wada, Vikramgadh, Mokhada, Jawhar, Dahanu and other nearby areas have been covered in the first phase and will benefit around 17,000 plus students, said the official.

The entire budget of Rs 15 lakh will be borne by the ITDP which runs the ashramshalas in Dahanu and Jawhar, he said. The administrator appointed in the schools will monitor the CCTV images and will report to us of any issues he said and we will then initiate action in this regard, he added.

A parent said that the CCTV camera is a boon which will not only provide safety to the girls and boys of the school but also will help the administration check the quality of education imparted as the cameras will also be placed inside the classrooms as well as in the offices.
