Mumbai : The Mumbai Traffic Police on Tuesday launched a helpline number which commuters can now use to get in touch with the Traffic Police. The helpline number can be accessed not just by voice calls but also text messages and Whatsapp messaging.
“Commuters can register all traffic-related complaints by just sending it as a text message or on Whatsapp to the number. People can also report incidents and the traffic police will take note of the same and issue a complaint number that can be used to track the complaint,” said an officer present at the launch.
The number will also be integrated with a mobile application called MTPCALL, which will be made available for all mobile platforms. The application can be downloaded on smartphones and will allow customers to seek information about traffic congestion, no parking areas, contact numbers of traffic constables and also track registered complaints.
“We did not have an official system previously to deal with the traffic problems in the city, which is one of the biggest problems. This new integrated system will help people efficiently deal with the traffic-related problems,” said Ahmed Javed, Mumbai Commissioner of Police. He launched the service along with actor Hrithik Roshan.
In addition to registering complaints, commuters can use the number to get information about towing vehicles and also fares of public transport including taxi and autorickshaws.
