Navi Mumbai: Two weeks after a tragic bike accident claimed the life of an 18-year-old boy, Uran police have concluded that the deceased, Aayan Aafan Nerekar, was at fault due to negligence.

The accident occurred on January 10 when Nerekar, a resident of Uran, invited his friends Shruti Chaudhary (18) and Gautam Mrugan (18), both his classmates from SIES College, to his home for biryani. Nerekar rode the bike while Chaudhary and Mrugan were pillion riders.

At approximately 4:15 PM, as the trio—final-year B.Com students—were heading toward Uran after college, their bike collided with the rear of a dumper on Jasai Bridge. None of them were wearing helmets at the time of the accident.

Nerekar was rushed to MGM Hospital in Vashi, where he was admitted for two days before succumbing to his injuries.

Senior Police Inspector Jitendra Misal stated, “Based on the statements of the two surviving friends, it was found that the three were traveling on a single bike without helmets. The investigation revealed that the bike was speeding, and the accident was caused by the deceased's negligence.”

The dumper driver involved in the incident was questioned, and his medical tests confirmed he was not under the influence of any substances. Police have registered a case of negligence against the deceased boy.
