Navi Mumbai: The process for talented sports persons applying for scholarships from Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation under sports category has begun. The civic administration to encourage talented athletes from the city and to upgrade the city’s reputation in the field of sports has launched its sport scholarship scheme.
NMMC has been giving sports scholarships, and last year 936 students received financial help of Rs 30 .62 lakhs. The students qualified were selected based on their achievement in sports at district, state as well as national or international levels.
“Every year NMMC seeks applications from upcoming sports talents for issuing scholarships. This year too the process has begun,’ said the sport incharge.
Under this scheme, resident athletes of NMMC who have demonstrated excellence in school-level competitions, state championship selection trials organized by government-recognized sports organizations, and national sports competitions will be eligible for financial assistance. Administration through a resolution had taken permission from the general body to extend the scholarship for budding sporting talents of the city
The Sports and Cultural Department of NMMC has invited applications for the 2023-24 Sports Scholarship approved by the General Assembly.”
Eligible athletes must submit their prescribed application forms along with necessary documents to the NMMC Sports Department by February 20, 2025. Late applications will not be considered,” informed an official.
The application forms are available at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Complex, CBD Belapur, Sports Department, and can also be downloaded from the official NMMC website – www.nmmc.gov.in.
NMMC urges all eligible athletes to take maximum advantage of this initiative and apply within the given deadline.
