Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) has extended the deadline for submitting objections and suggestions from physically challenged persons applying for space for self-employment. Now they can submit their objections and suggestions by July 8, 2022.

In order to provide space for self-employment to disabled persons in the NMMC area, the civic body issued notices in newspapers from February 11, 2019, to June 6, 2019, and sought applications from physically challenged persons.

The civic body had received a total of 714 applications and a waiting list of these applications was prepared. Now, in order to finalize the list, objections and suggestions have been sought from the applicants.

In may 2022, the civic NMMC received a total of 14 plots from CIDCO across the city for setting up stalls for disabled persons.

Municipal Commissioner Abhijit Bangar held a meeting with the property and architecture departments and directed them to expedite the process of the development of plots and design of the stalls. Meanwhile, he also asked to expedite the process of allotment by seeking objections and suggestions on previous applications.

According to the Property Department of NMMC, only those disabled persons who have submitted applications to the property department in the prescribed manner and in the prescribed time as per the newspaper advertisement from February 11, 2019, to June 6, 2019, can submit for objections and suggestions. During submission, the applicants will be required to submit the required documents.

The waiting list of applicants is available online on the website of NMMC at www.nmmc.gov.in as well as in the property department in civic headquarters, including all eight ward offices.

According to civic officials, disabled persons living in NMMC jurisdiction are eligible for space for self-employment.

Maruti Lande, president of Apnag Sena of Navi Mumbai, says that the need for stalls for disabled persons is much higher than the civic body will make available.

“More than 5,000 disabled persons require space and hardly 10 per cent of them will get it,” said Lande, adding that till others get stalls, they should be allowed to do their small business without any action.
