Navi Mumbai: In a bid to enhance Navi Mumbai’s cleanliness ranking, Navi Mumbai Municipal Commissioner Dr. Kailas Shinde conducted a surprise field inspection in Airoli, focusing on roads, footpaths, dividers, and debris management. Unlike conventional vehicle-based inspections, he chose to cycle through key areas, allowing for a detailed on-ground assessment.

“The inspection, part of an intensive cleanliness drive across the city, aimed to clear accumulated dust, ensure encroachment-free footpaths, and improve overall urban maintenance,” Dr Shinde said. Starting from Sector 5, he covered the underpass, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Nagar, Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj School area, and MIDC Road. Along the way, he reviewed cleanliness efforts and issued direct instructions to municipal officials.

Dr. Shinde emphasized that footpaths should remain accessible to pedestrians and that construction sites must use tall barricades while ensuring proper debris disposal. He also directed the removal of unwanted vegetation from pavements and the maintenance of sculptural installations. Noting the poor condition of greenery along road dividers in the MIDC area, he ordered immediate improvements and suggested tree plantations under the Katai flyover.

During the visit, he inspected public facilities, including a public toilet near Ashwin Quarry, instructing officials to repair and clean the premises. He also called for enhanced anti-debris operations and swift action to maintain road conditions. Stressing that main roads reflect the city’s image, he reiterated the need for pothole-free roads, dust removal for better air quality, and consistent beautification efforts across Navi Mumbai.

Accompanying him on the inspection were senior municipal officials, including City Engineer Shirish Ardawad, Deputy Commissioner Dr. Kailas Gaikwad, and other representatives from the solid waste management and engineering departments.
