Navi Mumbai: NMMC Celebrates Shivaji Maharaj’s 395th Birth Anniversary With Grand Procession And Cultural Events

The celebration began with the paying of homage to the equestrian statue situated at the Shivaji chowk in Vashi by the Forest Minister Ganesh Naik.

The 395th birth anniversary of Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj was celebrated in a grand way by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation. The civic administration organized various programs to honor the maratha warrior on Wednesday. 

The celebration began with the paying of homage to the equestrian statue situated at the Shivaji chowk in Vashi by the Forest Minister Ganesh Naik. Following this  a ‘Jai Shivaji, Jai Bharat’ procession was organized to mark the  birth anniversary. The 4 km long march saw huge participation. 

" As per the directives issued by the Union Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, the NMMC’s Education, Sports, and Cultural Affairs Department has planned a lot of activities to mark the celebration. Various schools and colleges conducted processions in their respective areas, with students from Vashi-based schools and colleges marching towards Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Chowk, chanting slogans in praise of the great Maratha king as a unique tribute," said an official. 

Students from Karmaveer Bhaurao Patil College, Vashi, performed traditional Lezim and Lathi-Kathi demonstrations following this several other schools and colleges also showcased different traditional sports and cultural performances. Adding to the event's grandeur was the presence of residents dressed in traditional Maharashtrian attire. 

Another major highlight was the rangoli portrait created by renowned artist Shrihari Pawale.Present at the occasion were Additional Commissioner Sunil Pawar, City Engineer Shirish Ardawad, Deputy Commissioner of Circle 1 Somnath Potre, Deputy Commissioner of Education Sangharatna Khilare, Deputy Commissioner of Sports and Cultural Affairs Abhilasha Mhatre Patil, Assistant Commissioner and Ward Officer of Vashi Division Alka Mahapurkar, Education Officer Aruna Yadav, Sports Officer Revappa Gurav, Executive Engineer Shubhangi Dode, along with Rajesh Pawar, Sanjeev Patil along with other dignitaries.
