Navi Mumbai News: PT Usha Inaugurates National Maritime Games 2025 At Indian Maritime University

The national maritime games 2025 is all set to be held at the Indian Maritime University. 

The grand opening ceremony was conducted by Padma Shri Dr. PT Usha. The competitions are to be held from March 24 to April 4. 

Padma Shri Dr. P.T. Usha, President of the Indian Olympic Association and Member of Parliament, inaugurated the National Maritime Games 2025 at IMU, Palm Beach Road, Navi Mumbai.

In her address, Dr. Usha emphasized the importance of sportsmanship, stating, 

"True sportsmanship overrides all else. In the arena of sport, there are no losers — every participant is a winner. It is not just about medals, but about the courage, discipline, and integrity each athlete brings to the field.” said Usha, the President of the Indian Olympic Association and Member of Parliament,

The National Maritime Games 2025 features over 20 sports, including athletics, swimming, table tennis, badminton, carrom, cricket, chess, golf, futsal, pickleball, and indoor rowing, fostering fitness, sportsmanship, and unity within India’s maritime community.

Dr. Usha also visited the Thakur International Sports Complex on March 24  to inaugurate the swimming and table tennis events.

The grand opening ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Shyam Jagannath, Director General of Shipping, Deependra Singh Bisen, Deputy Director General of Shipping, DIG Syed Mohammed of the Indian Coast Guard, Captain B.K. Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director of the Shipping Corporation of India, and Pavithran Kallada, Deputy MD of PSA India. Also in attendance were Namdev Shirgaonkar, Secretary General of the Maharashtra Olympic Association, Captain Girish Phadnis, President of the Yachting Association of Maharashtra, and Mrs. Kiran Phadnis, Director of K2K Sports Management, who played a key role in organizing the event.

The maritime academic sector was represented by Captain Mihir Chandra, Director of the Indian Maritime University, and Captain Vivek Bhandarkar, along with other key figures from the shipping, ports, and logistics industries.
