A day after the Maharashtra state government approved the formation of a third police zone in Navi Mumbai, the city police finalized a comprehensive restructuring of police jurisdictions under the Commissionerate. The administrative overhaul includes redistribution of police stations under the three zones Vashi, Belapur, and Panvel as part of an effort to streamline operations and improve law enforcement coverage.
As part of the reshuffle, Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kale, who was previously in charge of the Crime Branch, has been appointed as DCP for the newly created Zone II — Belapur. The existing DCPs for Zone I (Vashi) and Zone III (Panvel) will continue in their current roles.
Zone 1 (Vashi) will now comprise seven police stations. This zone is divided into two divisions. The Rabale Division, under an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP), will cover Rabale, Rabale MIDC, and Koparkhairane police stations. The Vashi Division, also led by an ACP, will include Vashi, APMC, Turbhe, and Sanpada police stations.
Zone II (Belapur), the newly formed zone, will include a total of eight police stations. The Belapur Division, under an ACP, will manage CBD Belapur, NRI, Nerul, and the proposed Navi Mumbai International Airport police station. The Port Division, also led by an ACP, will cover Ulwe, Nhava-Sheva, Uran, and Mora Coastal police stations.
Zone III (Panvel) will consist of seven police stations. The Kharghar Division will include Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe, and Taloja police stations. The Panvel Division will oversee Panvel City, Panvel Taluka, and Khandeshwar police stations, all under the supervision of respective ACPs.
Additionally, Navi Mumbai Police Commissioner Milind Bharambe confirmed that a dedicated police station for the Navi Mumbai International Airport has been proposed. "With the airport nearing completion and urban development rapidly expanding around it, the need for a separate police unit has become critical. We are expecting the approval for the same to come soon," a police officer said.
