A man who abandoned a two-day-old baby girl on the roadside in Panvel’s Taka Colony was traced and arrested within 24 hours by Navi Mumbai Police’s Crime Branch Unit II. Investigations revealed that the infant, born out of a premarital relationship, was abandoned by her biological father due to social pressure.

The incident came to light on June 28 when a newborn was found lying in the open in the Taka Colony area. Acting swiftly, Panvel City Police rescued the baby and filed a case under Section 93 of the BNS against an unknown individual.

Recognising the sensitivity and seriousness of the case, Commissioner of Police Milind Bharambe, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Deepak Sakore, and DCP (Crime) Amit Kale directed Crime Branch Unit II to carry out a parallel investigation.

Working under the guidance of ACP (Crime) Ajaykumar Landge and the leadership of Senior Inspector Umesh Gawali and PSI Abhaysingh, the team carried out a thorough investigation. "Although there were no eyewitnesses or physical evidence at the scene, we used technical surveillance and CCTV analysis to track a vehicle seen in the area," a police officer said.

This led them to Bhiwandi, where they apprehended Aman Iqbal Kondkar (23) an Engineer by profession who was currently unemployed. During questioning, Kondkar confessed that he was the baby’s father and that the child had been born out of wedlock. Unable to face societal judgment, he left the infant near Swapanalaya Girls Orphanage in Panvel. "The child was placed in the road near the orphanage," Gawali added.

The accused has been handed over to Panvel City Police for further legal proceedings. The biological mother who is 24 years old, is yet to be apprehended.
