Navi Mumbai: In a strong show of community-driven environmental activism, the Palm Beach Residents Welfare Association is organizing a ‘Walk for Wetlands & Trees’ on Sunday, April 20, at 7:00 AM.

The event aims to raise awareness about pressing ecological concerns and demand immediate action from civic authorities. "Participants will gather opposite NRI Complex, Phase 1, Gate 2, and walk around the DPS Lake area to voice their concerns," said a participant.

The association has issued a call to all concerned citizens to join the initiative in large numbers, highlighting it as a crucial moment for collective action.

Key Demands of the Walk:

1. Conservation Status for NRI Wetland and T.S. Chanakya Lake

While welcoming the government’s recent move to declare DPS Lake as a Conservation Reserve, residents are now demanding that NRI Wetland and T.S. Chanakya Lake also receives the same protected status. According to the organizers, both ecosystems are equally vital and must be safeguarded from further degradation.

2. Action Against Tree Choking by Indian Maritime University

The residents have also raised alarm over ecological damage caused by the Indian Maritime University (T.S. Chanakya Institute) during the construction of its boundary wall. Trees along the institute’s perimeter have reportedly been “choked,” prompting calls for urgent intervention by the NMMC Tree Authority. Residents are demanding the release of the affected trees and strict action against those responsible.

The walk is being billed as an important step in standing up for Navi Mumbai’s environmental heritage. Organizers are urging citizens to bring friends and family and make their voices count in the fight to protect the city’s wetlands and green cover.
